Progress towards eliminating viral hepatitis in Canada

Action Hepatitis Canada released its progress report last month, which will be updated every two years.

Table of results by province. According to this table, 7 of the 10 provinces are on track and 3 are not: Ontario, Manitoba and Quebec. Data are missing for the Northwest Territories, Nunavut and Yukon.

Excerpts :
"Over the past few months, the Hepatitis Action Canada team has been working to produce this report, the first of its kind in Canada. Using six indicators, including data from new annual hepatitis C treatments from 2016-2020, we have:

  • Determined which provinces and territories are on track to eliminate viral hepatitis by 2030 and which are not;
  • Issued recommendations on what each state and the federal government can do to improve prevention, screening, and linkages from screening to treatment when needed;
  • Highlighted positive points in certain provinces that could be repeated elsewhere.”
