Carceral Committee
The correctional committee is a anchor point which helps maintain the partnership between the organizations from different backgrounds and alsoensure consistency in services offered to inmates during or after their incarceration.
The situation regarding sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs) remains alarming in correctional facilities. In fact, several studies show that people in prison are at greater risk of contracting human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and/or hepatitis C virus (HCV) than the general population.
Although the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) has developed several programs to address this situation and promote better health among inmates, there is no denying that the involvement of other stakeholders in the field is essential. Community organizations are essential partners in this effort, and many of them are already working with this population.
