Acute HCV infection may manifest itself as a viral syndrome (difficult to recognise) or, more rarely, as jaundice, but in most cases it goes unnoticed. It should be noted that the presence of jaundice is associated with a greater likelihood of spontaneous clearance of the virus (50%).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\" data-block-type=\"core\">A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/fr\/sante-publique\/services\/maladies\/hepatite-c.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">chronic hepatitis C is asymptomatic<\/a> in most cases. The main symptom is fatigue. In rare cases, other extra-hepatic symptoms are observed:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\" data-block-type=\"core\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\" data-block-type=\"core\">Rhumatological: arthralgia, arthritis, myalgia;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\" data-block-type=\"core\">Renal: chronic renal insufficiency, glomerular involvement;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\" data-block-type=\"core\">Endocrine: insulin-resistance, type 2 diabetes;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\" data-block-type=\"core\">Cardiovascular: increased cardiovascular mortality, increased cerebral and cardiovascular events;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\" data-block-type=\"core\">Oncological: hepatocarcinoma, intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\" data-block-type=\"core\">Dermatological: purpura rash, Raynaud\u2019s disease, cutaneous vasculitis, pruritus.1<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\" data-block-type=\"core\">At advanced stages, there can be signs of decompensation associated with cirrhosis such as ascites, encephalopathy, jaundice or even gastrointestinal bleeding caused by ruptured esophageal varices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\" data-block-type=\"core\">Hepatitis C is most often diagnosed by targeted screening based on risk factors or by chance discovery.
